Sand & Pine Co. Opens First Storefront in Shepherdstown

Sand & Pine Co. Opens Brick-and-Mortar Store in Shepherdstown

Shepherdstown resident Joy Lewis was among the first to explore the new Sand & Pine Co. storefront, which officially opened on Saturday at 141 West German Street. After a week and a half of renovations—including sanding, painting, and building displays—the home decor store celebrates its transition from pop-up shops to a permanent location.

A Business Born from the Pandemic

Established in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sand & Pine Co. began as a primarily online business, showcasing its merchandise through various local pop-up events. The success of these ventures sparked the owners’ interest in securing a permanent location along Shepherdstown’s charming German Street.

Joy Lewis shared her enthusiasm, stating, "I loved going to their pop-up shop. Their price point and aesthetic make them the perfect fit for Shepherdstown."

A Community-Focused Vision

The new shop features large windows and unique architectural details, enhancing the overall ambiance that the owners envisioned for their home decor business. Chloe Kissinger, one of the founders, expressed her excitement: “I fell in love with the architecture of this building right away. Sand & Pine has come home.”

Kissinger, along with her sisters Maddie Humerick and Sidnie Flood, and brother Drew Stevens, is thrilled to be integrating their family business further into the community. Their mother, Nancy Stevens, plays a critical role in running the store and designing its displays. Nancy will manage the storefront from Wednesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while her children take charge on weekends.

Community Support and Seasonal Merchandise

Humerick noted the warm welcome from fellow business owners, saying, “This whole week has felt like the welcome of the neighbors.” The camaraderie among local businesses enhances the experience for both customers and shopkeepers alike.

Sand & Pine Co. plans to keep its merchandise fresh and eclectic, with items changing seasonally. Currently, shoppers can discover unique offerings like:

  • Brass moose heads inspired by the "Eric and Eloise" series
  • French soap
  • Woven bicycle baskets
  • Hand-painted metal lemon garlands
  • Pottery and wooden serving platters
  • Signature linen sprays, lotions, and candles

“It’s eclectic,” Humerick explained. “We are not just a gift shop or limited to one specific style. We wanted to create a space for families and groups to enjoy shopping together.”
