New Hilliard Habitat for Humanity ReStore: Lower Prices Now!

A New Chapter in Homeownership: A Woman’s Journey with Habitat for Humanity

Robin Bryant’s inspiring journey to homeownership highlights the transformative impact of Habitat for Humanity. After living in public and Section 8 housing, she is stepping into a new life as a homeowner, thanks to the support of this beloved nonprofit. This initiative plays a pivotal role in providing affordable housing for families in need.

Habitat for Humanity MidOhio Welcomes a New ReStore Location

Habitat for Humanity MidOhio has recently launched a new ReStore location on the Far West Side of the city near Hilliard. This store is more than just a shop; it serves as a community resource where individuals can purchase new and gently used home goods, appliances, and furniture at significantly reduced prices.

The ReStores operate on a model that encourages sustainability and the reuse of items. They accept donations from both individuals and businesses, helping to reduce waste while generating revenue to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission of affordable housing.

Discovering the Best Kept Secret in Central Ohio

Brandi AL-Issa, the president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity MidOhio, describes ReStores as "the best kept secret in Central Ohio." With the aim of increasing awareness, she envisions a time when families instinctively think of ReStore when in need of home items.

The new location, located at 5419 Roberts Road, spans 29,000 square feet and previously housed a Big Lots store. It is now a treasure trove of home essentials, available at unbeatable prices—often half of typical retail values.

Shopping and Donating: A Cycle of Sustainability

At ReStores, community members are not only encouraged to shop but are also invited to donate items. The store even offers collection services for donations left outside homes. As AL-Issa states, “We want families of all income levels to know about the ReStore.” The initiative helps reduce landfill waste while promoting sustainability through the reuse of items.

The inventory includes a diverse array of products, from new appliances to gently used furniture. By pricing items based on their condition and age, shoppers can experience the thrill of what AL-Issa describes as “a treasure hunt” with every visit.

The Financial Impact on Affordable Housing

Supporting ReStores directly translates to increased availability of affordable housing in Central Ohio. The revenue generated from the ReStore locations is crucial, especially in a landscape where federal funding for nonprofits isn’t guaranteed. Habitat for Humanity MidOhio’s ReStores collectively raise approximately $4 million, contributing to an annual budget of $14 million.

In just a year, from July 2024 to June, Habitat for Humanity MidOhio completed 15 new builds and performed 112 home repairs, significantly impacting the community.

A Mission Rooted in Action and Community

Habitat for Humanity MidOhio is dedicated to addressing the affordable housing crisis by building and selling more homes, as well as facilitating essential repairs. The nonprofit is driven by a mission to manifest compassion by connecting individuals with opportunities and hope through home ownership.

AL-Issa passionately articulates that “donating items you no longer need or shopping at ReStore supports a meaningful mission and tackles a critical issue.”

Grand Opening Celebration and Store Information

The Hilliard ReStore is set to host a grand-opening event on September 5 at 9 a.m., featuring sales, giveaways, and unbeatable offers. The store will be open Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with online shopping options available.

As the fourth ReStore in the Central Ohio area, this location joins others at Westerville Road, Bethel Road, and Newark. Please note that the Bethel Road location may soon close due to size constraints, as Habitat for Humanity seeks to sell the building.

For those looking to donate, a comprehensive list of accepted items is available at Habitat for Humanity MidOhio.

Conclusion: Community Support Matters

Robin Bryant’s journey is one of many highlighting the positive impact of Habitat for Humanity and its ReStores. By shopping and donating, community members can directly contribute to the mission of increased affordable housing while benefiting from great deals and sustainable practices.
