At 82 years old, Hall has decided it’s time to step away, stating, “It was finally time to move on, and at this point in your life, you start to recognize your mortality.” Starting Thursday, the process of total liquidation began in the sprawling 30,000-square-foot showroom and will last for the next three months.
Hall reminisces about his roots in Newington, recalling how he bought his first bicycle at the same location when it was operating as the Marholin-Lane Inc. Bicycle, Appliance and Furniture Store. “It’s the strangest thing. I came here as a child and then many years later purchased the building in 1983,” he shared.
The Challenges of Retirement
Stepping back from the business he built has proven to be challenging. Hall acknowledged the difficulty of leaving a team of nine employees, many of whom have been with him for 25 to 35 years. “They’ve been through a lot together, and we’re all at retirement age, so the transition is somewhat easier. It truly feels like family,” he noted.
Over the years, Connecticut Home Interiors has been committed to the community, supporting the Oak Hill School in Hartford with various fundraising initiatives and an annual golf tournament.
A Thoughtful Decision
Both Hall and his wife, Christine, have been contemplating retirement for three years. “I started advertising the building for sale, and recognizing my age emphasized the urgency,” Hall stated. The building was recently purchased by Michael Guidicelli of Regions Commercial Real Estate Advisors.
